The big kitty had his first birthday last week. Welcome to adulthood, Yuzu!

I meant to write a real post today, but it just didn’t happen. For one thing, I didn’t really know what I wanted to talk about. I’ve got a lot of half-finished thoughts floating about, but nothing even remotely organized or focused. Just some jumbly thoughts. If I’d just sat in front of the computer all day, I might have been able to come up with something.

Instead I went out to lunch with someone who I’m coming to think of as a friend. We had a mediocre meal at a Japanese restaurant and chatted for two hours, then we left to go to a Starbucks for another two hours of chatting. And that was good. It’s the first time I’ve spent the majority of the day outside of the house in a long, long time. I needed that, especially considering how gloomy February can be for me – even before the month begins. It’s nice to get out of the house and be sociable, not just running errands and getting stuff done. And though I love my husband dearly and never get tired of his presence, it’s nice to have someone to talk to other than him sometimes.

So, it was a quiet day, but not a lonely day. I can’t complain about that.

I’m finding – particularly on the weekends – that if I don’t immediately sit down and write a blog post, I don’t usually get around to it the rest of the day. So I’m stuck with having to think of something to write as soon as I sit down at the computer. Some days, that’s okay. Friday is always taken care of with the cooking assignments. Ditto for every other Tuesday. At least one day a week (usually Wednesday), I write about Lauren or grief or what it’s like to be one of the babylost. Everything else is just random food things I’ve done during the week, or random observations. I like to keep Mondays short and to the point, because Monday is a busy day. Random photos are nice for Mondays, because I don’t have a lot of time to ramble.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve kinda let some of my blogging habits slip. This month, I’m going to try to fix that. I’m hoping that means that I’ll be more productive in real life so that I have things to talk about during the week.

The cupcake baking is still a thing I do, contrary to January’s evidence. I’ve got one planned for this week, but not for next week, because of the two sweet things were selected for the Valentine’s week cooking assignments. I’m thinking a low-sugar, low-calorie cupcake might be called for later this month.

I’m also still making meatballs on a regular basis. I haven’t been posting any because I haven’t really been doing any interesting ones lately. We ate the rest of the IKEA meatballs (because a whole bag makes two separate meals, with leftovers), and I made a very simple dish of old-fashioned spaghetti and meatballs.

I used a combo of beef and pork for those meatballs, and I actually had a lot of that mixture leftover – enough for three more meals. So I’m not expecting to be making any truly fascinating meatballs for a while. I’ve still got plenty of meatball recipes I want to try, so it’s only a matter of time.

Anyway, I still intend to put effort into writing as often as possible. Lately, I’ve been doing about four posts a week – I’d really it rather be five. I’ll keep working on it. In the meantime, I’ll just blame it on February. I’ll be happy when this month is over.

And because it’s Monday, I’ll leave you with a picture of a kitten attacking an empty beer box.
