It’s that time of year again.

My favorite time of year.

Nanowrimo is creeping up on us again.

I’ll be the first to admit: last year, Nanowrimo was not the highlight of the year that it usually is. Not surprising. I don’t feel badly about not completing my Nano project last year, my testament to Lauren’s life. I was in deep mourning. I didn’t have high expectations. I actually did more than I hoped I would.

This year, however, I am not going to be so lenient. This year, I have all the time, all the purpose, all the ability to get those 50,000 words out and on the page.

I even have a story idea.

Note: idea. Not an actual plot. I’ve been working on that.

I wanted something a little more light-hearted this year, plus I’ve had a story idea nagging at me for the past three years or so. I’m going back to my world of steampunk Japan and picking up characters who starred in my 2009 Nano project. It was a mystery set in 1907 Japan, in an alternate steampunk history. I’ve been doing some editing on that story lately, and I’ve been itching to write more with these characters. I’ve had several ideas for them over the past three years, but I decided to go with the chronologically-next one, which deals with the launch of a new locomotive during sakura season. Murder, jewel-thievery, and other bits of mayhem occur. It’s fun stuff!

I can’t promise that my blog posts will keep coming every day once November starts. I’m aiming for 1700 words per day, which is kind of a lot, even considering that many of my blogs are 600+ word and I usually bang them out in an hour or two. Novel-writing isn’t the same. I don’t have to worry about character motivations and plot arcs here. I pretty much just sit down and type whatever comes to mind. Not what I intend to do for Nano. At the very least, I want to post here every other day, but I’m going to try to stick to daily postings. They just might be shorter than usual.

I any event, Nanowrimo season is officially open for me! I should really get to plotting. While I know that murder, jewel-thievery, and mayhem will occur, I still haven’t quite figured out who’s doing it and why.

I did mention I have an idea, right? Time to go off in search of a plot.
